What is UPTET?
Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) is a state-level exam conducted once a year to enable candidates to gain eligibility for primary (Classes 1-5) and upper primary (Classes 6-8) level teachers in the schools of Uttar Pradesh. The exam is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB). UPTET exam is conducted in two shifts for two papers – I and II. UPTET Paper-I is conducted for candidates who plan to become teachers of Classes 1-5. On the other hand, UPTET Paper-II is for candidates who plan to become teachers of Classes 6-8. Candidates who wish to become teachers of Classes 1-8 need to appear in both papers. Both the UPTET papers are conducted on the same day in offline mode as pen-and-paper-based tests.

UPTET Notification 2021
The UPTET 2021 notification was set to release on May 11, 2021. However, the exam notification and dates have now been postponed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The notification will now release after the pandemic situation eases. The UPTET notification will contain crucial details of the exam including the application process, eligibility criteria, important dates, exam pattern, syllabus and others. Candidates who qualify UPTET exam become eligible for recruitment as primary or upper-primary (also called middle school) level teachers in the schools of Uttar Pradesh. The qualifying candidates receive their UPTET eligibility certificate in due course after the declaration of the result. The UPTET eligibility certificate is valid for a period of five years.

Candidates will be able to fill the UPTET application form in online mode by paying an exam fee of Rs 600 for one paper and Rs 1,200 for both the papers. UPTET registration trends
In 2019, over 16 lakh candidates registered for UPTET exam as compared to nearly 18 lakh registrations done in 2018. Out of the total applications received in 2019, over 10.5 lakh registrations were done for paper-I and over 5.5 lakh registrations were done for paper-II.

UPTET Selection Process 2021
UPTET selection process includes the following stages:
- Written exam: UPTET exam consists of two papers. Paper-I needs to be given by aspirants who plan to teach classes I-V. Paper-II needs to be given by candidates who plan to teach classes VI-VIII. Candidates who plan to teach classes I-VIII need to appear for both the papers.
- UPTET result: UPTET result is announced by the exam conducting authority on the official website of the exam. Candidates scoring minimum 60 per cent marks in the written test are declared UPTET qualified.
- UPTET eligibility certificate Candidates qualifying the written test are issued an eligibility certificate by the exam authority. Candidates having the certificate are eligible to apply for teaching jobs in the schools of Uttar Pradesh. The validity of UPTET eligibility certificate is five years.
UPTET 2021 Exam Day Guidelines
The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted in offline mode as a pen-and-paper-based test. Some of the important things that candidates need to keep in mind on the day of UPTET exam are:
- Candidates must carry at least two ball-point pens of black and blue colour and a pencil to the allotted UPTET exam centre
- Candidates should carry UPTET admit card to the test centre
- Along with the admit card, candidates are also advised to carry two passport size photographs and a photo ID proof (PAN card/driving license/voter ID card/passport/Aadhar card/ration card) to the centre
- Candidates should not carry any study material or electronic gadget such as calculator and digital watch inside the examination hall
