Any person who is a citizen of India and is 18 years or older is eligible to vote in the elections. However, before doing so the applicant is required to register himself or herself.


What is the Eligibility criteria to Register to Vote

Registration Process to Vote in India

Online

The form will be verified, and the name of the applicant will be included in the voter list. Offline

In order to register yourself as a voter offline, you can follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Visit the nearest Booth Level Officer (BLO) to obtain Form 6.
  • After the form is filled, submit it along with the Aadhar card and a document that provides proof of your birth and the graduation certificate. In case any of these documents are not available, you are required to submit an affidavit stating the reason for it.
  • Two passport-size photographs of the applicant are also required.
  • In addition to the other documents, the applicant is also required to submit a photocopy of the voter ID of a family member. If none of the family members possess an ID card, the applicant can submit the ID card of the neighbor.
  • Once all the documents are submitted with the Booth Level Officer (BLO), the verification department will verify the papers and issue the voter ID to the applicant.

  • Any general voter is required to fill out Form 6. Applicants who are registering themselves as first time voters along with those who want to change their constituency can also fill out Form 6.
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are required to fill out Form 6A.
  • If the applicant wants to make changes to any information regarding his or her entry in the electoral roll, he or she can fill out Form 7.
  • The applicant should fill out Form 8 to change the details such as Name, Photo, Age, EPIC Number, Address, Date of Birth of the applicant, name of the relative, Type of relation, or gender.

Any aspiring voter who is not registered yet must fill out Form 6 and submit it to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the assembly constituency in which the applicant resides. After the submission of the form, the applicant is now registered to vote in the elections.
