One of the biggest and most important of India’s religious holidays is Mahashivratri. On Saturday, February 18, 2023, Hindus will celebrate Maha Shivratri 2023, a fortunate festival. The celebration honours Shiva’s Grace, who is revered as the Adi Guru or the First Guru and the source of the Yogic tradition.

Mahashivratri 2023

One of the most significant Hindu holidays is Maha Shivratri. It goes by several titles, including “The Great Night of Shiva,” “Padmarajarathi,” and others. Lord Shiva is the subject of the event. Lord Shiva wed Goddess Parvati on this day. After Sati passed away, Shiva is said to have fallen into a deep meditation.

To become the wife of Lord Shiva, Sati took on the form of Parvati. Therefore, on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Phalguna, Mahashivratri commemorates the union of Shiva and Parvati. Scroll down to get more about the MAHASHIVRATRI 2023.

Lord Shiva followers maintain a severe fast and participate in a variety of devotional rituals on this day. It is said that those who fast on Maha Shivratri receive blessings from Lord Shiva and are cleansed of all their past transgressions and sins. Maha Shivratri is also said to be the anniversary of Lord Shiva’s cosmic dance, or Tandav.

  • Mahashivratri is observed on the first day if the full Nishithkaal falls under Chaturdashi Tithi (the fourteenth day according to the Hindu calendar).
  • Nishith Kaal is the name of the night’s eighth Muhurat. In other words, Mahashivratri is only observed on the first day if the eighth Muhurat of the night comes within Chaturdashi Tithi.
  • Mahashivratri is observed on the first day if Chaturdashi Tithi touches the first portion of the Nishith Kaal on the next day and the full Nishith Kaal falls within Chaturdashi Tithi on a preceding day.
