The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) Examination, a crucial recruitment drive for various non-technical positions within various departments of the Government of India. The SSC MTS exam attracts numerous candidates yearly due to its reputation as a gateway into government service.

Currently, the commission is initiating a recruitment for Multi Tasking Staff, and other Non-Technical positions. The commission accepted online applications for SSC MTS Recruitment from 07 May to 06 June 2024. Applicants will be looking for the syllabus for this written test and examination pattern.

SSC MTS Examination Scheme and Paper Pattern

The exam scheme for SSC MTS is structured to objectively evaluate the aptitude and skills necessary for performing the duties involved in a Multi-Tasking Staff role. The SSC MTS exam consists of two main parts: Paper I (Computer-Based Examination) and Paper II (Descriptive Examination). Each segment assesses different skill sets, and mastering the contents of these papers is pivotal for success. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Duration of Paper I: 90 minutes for general candidates and 120 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe.
  • Duration of Paper II: 30 minutes for general candidates and 40 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe.
  • Marking Scheme for Paper I: Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark and a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer to discourage guessing.

Paper I: Computer-Based Examination

Paper I is a multiple-choice-based test to evaluate the candidate’s general intelligence, numerical aptitude, general English, and general awareness. The detailed breakdown of the sections is as follows:

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 questions, 25 marks): This section tests logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills through various puzzles, analogies, pattern recognition, and more.
  • Numerical Aptitude (25 questions, 25 marks): This segment examines basic arithmetic skills, including operations on numbers, percentages, time and distance, ratios, and averages, among others.
  • General English (25 questions, 25 marks): Focused on testing basic understanding of English language, grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and correct usage.
  • General Awareness (25 questions, 25 marks): Candidates need to be well-versed with current events and everyday observations particularly related to India and its neighbouring countries about history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity and scientific research.

Paper II: Descriptive Examination

Paper II is a descriptive test where candidates are required to write a short essay or a letter in English or any language included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution. This test assesses elementary language skills in terms of content development and grammar. The topics are generally of national interest, which could include:

  • Social Issues: Education, Poverty, Gender equality, and more.
  • Politics and Governance: Democracy, Electoral Reforms, Decentralization.
  • Environmental Concerns: Conservation, Climate Change, and Sustainability.
  • Technology and Development.
