The sister of previous American cabinet secretary Elaine Chao, Angela Chao was an important person in US politics and commercial dealings with China. She was the CEO of the shipping firm Foremost Group and died in a car collision in Texas on Sunday.

Angela Chao Early Life & Education 

The youngest kid of Dr. James S.C. Chao and the late Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, Angela Chao, were born in 1974. Due to her upbringing in a home where transportation was an integral part of life, Angela showed a childhood interest in and fascination about the sector. 

On “Get Your Child to Job” days, she went with her father to the office, hinting at her potential in the nautical sector.  After completing her three years of coursework for her bachelor’s degree in Economics at Harvard College, Angela received a magna cum laude diploma. 

At Harvard University, Angela Chao wrote an assignment titled “Ocean Carriers” while pursuing her MBA. Her case study is part of the MBA program at Harvard and other management institutions.

In 2016, the Baker Libraries at Harvard Business School honored Angela’s family, her late mother, Mrs. Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, and her father, Dr. James S.C. Chao for their noteworthy contributions to history, education, and culture.

In remembrance of Ruth’s legacy, Harvard Business School established the Ruth Mulan Chu Chao Center, which houses the university’s first facility named for an Asian American and a woman.

Angela Chao Career  

After obtaining significant expertise in Smith Barney’s buying and selling division, Angela Chao participated in Foremost Group in 1996. In 1964, her father launched the business. She progressed through a number of managerial roles until being named CEO in 2018. 

The conviction that people, not things, are the key for achievement in the maritime industry characterized Angela’s organizational style.

At the time of her passing, entrepreneur Angela Chao, who was Taiwanese-American, was worth $100 million. Sadly, on February 11, 2024, Angela passed away in a car crash at the age of 50. 

Angela Chao assumed leadership in 2008 and was the sixth child of entrepreneur James S.C. Chao. Angela got married to millionaire venture capitalist Jim Breyer at the period of her demise. 

Among many other Money invested Accel Partners, a venture capital firm, was one of the first to make investments in Facebook. Her previous marriage to billionaire Bruce Wasserstein lasted only a short time.
