Bukayo Saka Biography

Bukayo Saka, or Bukayo Ayoyinka Temidayo Saka, is a famous English professional football player. He plays for the Arsenal Football Club as a right winger in the Premier League.

He joined the senior squad of England camp in 2020 and represented his country in the UEFA Euro Cup and FIFA World Cup.

He was born on 5 September 2001 to Yoruba Nigerian parents in Greater London. His parents, Yomi Saka and Adenike Saka, came to England in 1990 as economic migrants from Nigeria. He is the younger child of the Saka family. His name Bukayo is a word from the Yoruba language that means “adds to happiness.”

Bukayo Saka Early Life and Education

Bukayo Saka was born and grew up in Greenford, Ealing just five miles away from Wembley. Saka grew up in a better environment as his parents moved to England for better economic opportunities, his father was a low-profile businessman. 

He went to Edward Betham Church of England Primary School for primary education. 

Later, he went to Greenford High School to complete his high school. He earned A*s and As in his General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and passed high school with flying colors. 

He was interested in football from his early days, before joining Arsenal, his first-ever team club, he played for the local club of Greenford. 

According to his interview, his father played an important role in shaping his career and keeping him humble & grounded. He had mentioned in his interviews his father is the biggest inspiration and drive for him to do better.

Saka has always kept his life private and low-profile from the limelight of the media. According to the sources, he is in a relationship with his long-time girlfriend Tolami Benson.

Due to his interest in football, he joined Arsenal’s Hale End Academy at the age of seven to sharpen his skills. 

He stood out on the football field with the younger teams and got the attention of many players of that time. 

When he turned 17, he signed a professional contract with Arsenal Football Club and played his debut match with Arsenal against Vorskla Poltava (a) in the UEFA Europa League as a substitute for Aoran Ramsey. When he signed the contract he was promoted to the U-23 team with Arsenal.

Arsenal is his home where he grew up as a professional football player. Saks got his first home debut with Arsenal in another match of the Europa League against Qarabag.

In 2019, he made his debut in the Premier League and became the first 2001-born player to play such a high-level Premier League match. 

He played many matches for Arsenal and led them to a winning squad. In August 2022, he became the second youngest player in the history of Arsenal to play 100 Premier League and won the League Player of the Month Award in 2023. 

England team Career

Saka played under-16 England Squad in 2016 as a substitute and won over Romania. He played for England in the 2017 UEFA U16 Development Tournament. 

He appeared six times in his U-16 career from 2016 to 2017. He played in the U-17 FA International Tournament from England and made his debut in the opening match against Turkey.

He played in the U-17 England football squad from 2017 to 2018 and appeared nine times in an England jersey. 

In 2020, he made it to the senior squad of the national team and played against Wales. Now, he is tied to England’s national team and can no longer represent Nigeria. 

His performance on England’s team has made him a household name in England, he has won many matches for England and won many Player of the Season matches for England.
