CRA OTB Notice 2024, What it means and why you get one?

CRA OTB Notice Sent

The CRA OTB (Canada Revenue Agency Ontario Trillium Benefit) Notice is a letter or email that people living in Ontario, Canada, might receive. This notice is all about the Ontario Trillium Benefit. It is a helpful financial program by the government and combines three different tax credits.

The notice could tell you something important, like your application for these benefits has been approved, or it might be an update about any changes in the amount you will receive. Sometimes, it could also be a reminder or a request for additional information they need to keep giving you the benefit.

What is OTB?

This program supports residents of Ontario with low to moderate income, helping them with the costs related to energy bills, property taxes, and sales tax. The OTB combines three separate tax credits into one single payment.

These tax credits are:

Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit (OEPTC) – It is provided to eligible people in Ontario, Canada.  Its purpose is to help people with the cost of energy and property taxes. You apply for the OEPTC when you file your income tax and benefit return.

Northern Ontario Energy Credit (NOEC)- It is given to the residents of Northern Ontario.  To help with energy costs, specifically for those living in the northern part of the province. To qualify for it, you must have lived in Northern Ontario on December 31 of the relevant year.

Ontario Sales Tax Credit (OSTC)- It is given to eligible individuals in Ontario. You automatically receive it based on your income tax return.
