HSRP Number Plate Registration
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways introduced a new number plate for vehicles in 2001 called High Security Registration Plates to resolve the problems of vehicle identification.
The HSRP-type number plates feature tampered-proof features such as laser-etched serial numbers, a 3D hologram of ashok chakra, a reflective film with the inscription, and a unique alpha-numeric combination code.
Last year, the Department of Road Transport and Highways issued a notice related to HSRP. The department has made it mandatory to install HSRP on all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, and costs over Rs 2 crores.
The number plates installed after 2019 are already equipped with HSRP elements and features. Hence, the old vehicle owners need to register for HSRP number plates.
Last year, the deadline was November 17, 2023, for the HSRP number plate registration. However, not many vehicles got registered, leaving no choice for authorities but to extend the date of HSRP registration.
HSRP Number Plate Last date to Register
The government of India extended the last date to register high-security number plates to 17 Feb 2024.
Recently, the Karnataka Government noted that only 9.18% of vehicles are HSRP registered, and this led to the date extension for the HSRP registration in Karnataka.
The government of Karnataka has extended the dates by three months of the original deadline i.e. 17 Feb 2024.
The government has made it mandatory for all vehicles in India. So, if you own a vehicle, and haven’t registered HSRP on it, then it’s high time you apply for the HSRP registration.
If you haven’t adopted or registered for HSRP number plates by the deadline, you are subjected to penalty fees ranging from Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000.
