The current J&K Police Special Director General, R R Swain will retire on 30 September 2024, following his retirement, the Home Affairs Ministry has announced the next SDG of the J&K Police on 15 August 2024. As per the reports, Prabhat will take over the SDG responsibilities & office from R R Swain after his retirement. 

Previously, he handled the Director General of the National Security Guard office, his service ended on 15 August 2024. Nalin Prabaht hails from Himachal Pradesh, he was born on 14 March 1968 in Thungri Village, Manali. The details about his family and parents are not public. 

Prabhat is one of the highly respected officers who won many gallantry awards, he comes from the 1992 batch of IPS officers from the Andhra Pradesh cadre. His appointment as J&K police SDG reflects the government’s faith in him and his expertise that reflects from his decorated career. The government has immediately ordered his transfer from NSG to AGMUT cadre till 30 September 2024.

IPS Officer Nalin Prabhat Education

The 56-year-old IPS officer Nalin Prabhat graduated with BA honors from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, he has also completed his MA from the same college. After college, he prepared for the UPSC examination and cleared the examination to join the 1992 batch of IPS officers from Andhra Pradesh Cadre.  

After his IPS training, he joined the services on 09 Jan 1993 and served in many positions till his current appointment as SDG of J&K Police.

IPS Officer Nalin Prabhat started his government services in 1993 and till now he has distinguished track records, such as Andhra Pradesh specializing in anti-Naxal Police force, handling sensitive operations, and leading many missions to safeguard the country.

IPS Officer Nalin Prabhat Awards

The former DG of NSG appointment came at a time when terror activities were increasing in J&K. His expertise in dealing with terror activities and familiarity with the J&K region will surely improve the situation in J&K and establish peace in the region.

Currently, the ACC (Committee of Cabinet) has approved the Home Ministry proposals to end his term as BSG Director General and transfer him to the AGMUT (Andhra Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and UT) cadre. He will take over the Special Director General of Police office in J&K after the retirement of RR Swain on 30 September 2024.
