Ram Narain Agarwal Early Life & Education
Ram Narain Agarwal was born on the 24th of July in 1941 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, into a business family. Since his childhood, a sense of inquisitiveness about the subjects of science and technology, among others, had substantially defined his later vocation in the spheres of aerospace engineering.
After completing his early education, Agarwal went on to the niche of aeronautics by joining the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Guindy, from where he graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Later, he also acquired his Master’s from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and Doctorate from the University of Rajasthan.
Ram Narain Agarwal Key Achievements
Dr. Agarwal’s role in the Agni missile project did end with the first phase of development. He was assigned the role of Program Director in weaponizing the Agni 2 in 1995. The live deployment was carried over in 1999 with the newer version that had a road –mounting launch feature and a more extended range than that of Agni.
He was also front-running in making a success of the Agni-3 missile weapon system, a testimony to the fact that India had emerged as a power to indigenously produce long range nuclear-capable missiles.
In his professional career, Dr. Agarwal had worked with other renowned scientists like Dr. Arunachalam and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in the weaving of the technology for re-entry, all-composite heat shields, on board propulsion systems, and advanced guidance and control systems for missiles in place.
Ram Narain Agarwal Leadership with Vision
The Agni missile program was pioneering the course of India’s missile capability under the stewardship and vision of Dr. Agarwal. He is known to be the one who motivated the team to high objectives as evident from the successful launch of Agni Technology Demonstrator in the year 1989.
His term as the director of the Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) in Hyderabad was the evidence of the excellent work he had contributed towards missile technology that earned him the reputation of being labelled as the best and the most aspiring director of the organisation.
During his 22-year service in the DRDO, Dr. Agarwal took initiative to establish factories that manufactured long-range missiles and extended the sites to launch them.
