The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) conducts the Combined Civil Services Examination IV (Group IV Services) for various posts across the Tamil Nadu state government departments. This examination is critical for candidates aiming for positions such as Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Typist, and Steno-Typist, among others.

Currently, the Tamil Nadu PSC is initiating a recruitment drive for 6244 vacancies for the Group IV cadre in the state. TNPSC Group 4 Exam Structure

The TNPSC Group 4 exam is structured as an objective type test, employing the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) method. The examination is divided into two main parts:

  • Part A: Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test
  • Part B: General Studies and Aptitude & Mental Ability Test

The paper assesses the candidates’ general knowledge, analytical capability, and language proficiency. Here’s a breakdown of the exam pattern:

Part A: Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test This segment is designed exclusively in Tamil and tests the candidates’ proficiency in the language, focusing on grammar, literature, and language skills.

Part B: General Studies and Aptitude

  1. General Studies: Questions in this segment are set both in Tamil and English. It covers general knowledge, current events, general science, history of India, Indian politics, Indian economy, Indian national movement, freedom struggle, and questions from mental ability and reasoning.
  2. Aptitude & Mental Ability Test: This section assesses quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, and decision-making skills.

Preparing for the Exam

Candidates should strengthen their command over Tamil for Part A, as it is a significant scoring part of the test. For Part B, regular reading of newspapers and standard GK books and practising quantitative aptitude and reasoning questions from competitive exam guides is advisable.
