Big news is coming regarding Agniveer Yojana. It is being said that the Indian Army has expressed its desire to change some provisions of the Agniveer Scheme. A review and survey has also been conducted with key stakeholders to recommend possible changes in the scheme. Five changes have come to light in this. The Army has given some important points on its internal survey. This complete information has been received from military sources.

According to information received from sources, the first point in the internal survey of the Army is to increase the percentage of Agniveers. The Army wants that even after the end of four years, the number of Agniveers should be maintained at 60-70 percent. In the present form only 25 percent of Agniveer will be retained. 75 percent will be let go with a lump sum payment of around Rs 12 lakh.

Army wants to increase service period from seven to eight years

The second point is to increase the service period. In this, the Army also wants to increase the service period from four years to seven to eight years. In the current four-year Agniveer recruitment, formal basic training is only nine months. The remaining training is done on the job when the firefighter is deployed to the unit.

The third point is to increase the age of recruitment in technical fields. Presently Agniveers are kept between the age of 17 to 21.5 years. The Army is proposing to increase the age limit for recruitment in technical arms like Signal, Air Defense and Engineers to 23 years. These weapons require a long training period due to their technical nature. By the time Agniveer develops expertise in any technical field, his service period ends and he has to be let go.

The fourth point is disability payments and assistance in finding a job after the end of the service period. The Army also wants ex-gratia payment for those firefighters who become disabled during training. Apart from this there should be a professional agency which guides the fire fighters on how to find future jobs after their service period is over.

The fifth and last point is subsistence allowance. The Army wants that the provision of subsistence allowance to the family members of Agniveer if he dies in the war should also be included in the scheme.
