UPSC Engineering Service 2025 Recruitment Notification Released, Check Application Link

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025.  The UPSC ESE, also known as the Indian Engineering Services (IES), is conducted annually to recruit engineers for various departments such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. This year, the notification was published on September 18, 2024.

The application process for this year’s examination began on the 18th of September 2024 and will close on the 8th of October 2024. Candidates will have the opportunity to make modifications to their applications from the 9th of October 2024 until the 15th of October 2024. This recruitment drive aims to fill approximately 232 vacancies across various engineering disciplines.

Engineering Services Educational Qualification

Candidates must have obtained a degree in Engineering from a recognized university or institution. The acceptable qualifications include:

• A degree in Engineering from a university incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament.
• Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India).
• Obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from a foreign university recognized by the Government.
• Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India).
• Passed Associate Membership Examination of the Aeronautical Society of India.

For candidates applying for the Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’, a Master’s degree in relevant fields is also acceptable.

UPSC IES Age Limits

Candidates must be between 21 to 30 years as of January 1, 2025. This means that the candidate should have been born between January 2, 1995, and January 1, 2004.

Age Relaxation:

• Government Servants: Up to 5 years.
• SC/ST Candidates: Up to 5 years.
• OBC Candidates: Up to 3 years.
• Defence Services Personnel: Up to 3 years.
• Ex-Servicemen and ECOs/SSCOs: Up to 5 years.
• Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Up to 10 years.

Registration Fee

To complete the application process, candidates need to pay the application fees online using a debit card/credit card, internet banking, UPI wallet, etc. The category-wise application fees required to apply for UPSC ESE 2025 are as follows.

Indian Engineering Services Selection Process

The selection process consists of four stages. Each stage is designed to evaluate the candidate’s technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and suitability for a career in the engineering services of the Government of India.

Preliminary Examination: This first stage acts as a screening process with two objective-type papers. The initial paper evaluates general studies and engineering aptitude, while the second focuses on the specific engineering discipline of the candidate. Passing this stage is essential to progress to the next level.

Main Examination: The Main Examination is the second stage and consists of two descriptive papers, each specific to the candidate’s chosen engineering discipline.

Personality Test: This stage, also known as the interview, carries 200 marks and evaluates the candidate’s personality traits like communication skills and leadership qualities. The panel not only examines the candidate’s technical knowledge but also their problem-solving capabilities, ethical standards, and dedication to public service

Medical Examination: The final stage verifies that the candidates meet the necessary physical and medical standards required for various engineering positions in the government.
